M.A. Social Worker

What positive attributes do you bring to your job?

Being me! The work setting, where I am employed, allows me unique opportunities to be fun, caring, responsible, conscientious, and needed.  I enjoy being able to work with others in a harmonious work setting, complete tasks accurately and on time and follow through even in small matters.  I try to notice what others may need and offer assistance.  I believe it is important to get things done and focus on getting results in the most efficient way possible.  I appreciate others for who they are and for what they contribute.

What are your feelings towards Family Solutions, as an employee?

I have been employed with Family Solutions since December of 2001.  I had had a set-back in my previous position and began to question my commitment to being a social worker.  As I regained my confidence and pursued employment in the social work field my doubts about myself disappeared after being employed at Family Solutions.  The recognition and support that is practiced in this agency helped me believe in myself and my special gifts again.  The staff are dedicated workers and team work is essential.  I am honored to be employed by Family Solutions.  It is anticipated that this will be my last position before retirement (down the road).  I will be blessed with cherished memories of having worked with wonderful folks that acknowledge me for who I am and appreciate me as a person and an employee.

What are your qualifications for being a Social Worker and what prior experiences have helped you in your current job position?

I am the proud parent of three grown children.  As a parent and while my children were being raised I was the recipient of the many joys and challenges that are part of being a parent.  I believe our children provide parents with numerous opportunities to gain experience and insight in relating to “what is out there”.  This knowledge and experience has been an important tool for me in working with children from various backgrounds.  Often the children that are receiving services had no control over the many obstacles that have been a part of their lives.  I believe my education, being a parent, and work experience have provided me with unlimited opportunities to work with children and families.

Where did you receive your degree or qualifications?

I received my degrees at California State University, Dominguz Hills.  I have a BA in Psychology with a minor in Sociology.  I have a Masters in Psychology.  I have been working in the social work field for close to 20 years.  I started with CPS, in Rancho Cucamonga, responding to and investigating child abuse allegations.  After being in that position for almost a year, our family relocated to the Panhandle in Florida.  I worked for Child Protective Services, for the State of Florida, for ten years.  I relocated back to California and have been working, in the current field, FFA Social Worker, since December 2000.

What date were you hired at Family Solutions?

December 10th, 2001

What is the most rewarding aspect of your profession?

The most rewarding aspect of my profession is being able to make a difference in the lives of children - and families when that is possible.   It is especially rewarding to witness the change in children as they grow.  Our foster parents do a great job at meeting the needs of the children that are placed in their homes.  It is especially refreshing to be able to sleep at night knowing the children are safe, secure, and having their endless needs met.  When reunification is successful this is a rewarding outcome for everyone and when adoption becomes the final outcome this is an equally rewarding outcome.
